Openvpn Windows 7 and Windows Vista

To install OPENVPN on WINDOWS 7 or WINDOWS VISTA, I find using the OPENGUI most easy, but just ensure that you use the most recent OPENVPN installation pack from OPENVPN website, else you will get errors TAP device already in use. More details in next post.

SQUID CONFIGURATION

Hello, I had this error today while configuring squid proxy server on ubuntu 8.04 server, "ACL name "all" not defined!. FATAL: Bungled squid.conf line 69...........terminated abnormally". And my squid.conf file does not even run up to line 69. So I searched and the solution was just to include "acl all src all" and voila squid server started normally.

Blog has been removed

2:00am, I entered my blog URL to post some more but I got this "your blog has been removed" message. I couldn't even sign into my Gmail account, It was showing "account temporarily disabled" So I followed the steps for verification with SMS. I used my GLO mobile number but did not get any verification code but when I Used my ZAIN mobile number, I recieved the SMS verification code and I got my accounts back. Sure! otherwise I would not have able to type this and you would not have been able to read it. Anyone have an idea why this happened, am sure I did not violate any terms of service.

OPENFIRE RSA CERTIFICATE INVALID

Incase you run into an openfire RSA ceritificate invalid error on the server settings page or you are unable to connect your LAN clients to the openfire server but can connect from Spark or other IM installed on the server host system, then simpley go to the server certicate link, delete the current certificate and then restart the server.

After rebooting the server, click on the link to generate new certificate keys and voila, the openfire server will restart and thats it. Enjoy!!!

Ubuntu 10.04 Upgrade, Test and Stability

I hurriedly upgraded to the new ubuntu 10.04 version and right now, one of the bugs that I have noticed is that the system does not come back up after going into screen saver. I'll keep you posted on other info.

File system check failed Ubuntu

Hi guys, I got this file system check failed upon booting a ubuntu box today. I searched the forums as usual but the solutions were too complex. after running the fsck check command, I concluded that the system time was wrong. so I rebooted and reset the system time in the BIOS and viola, that fixed the problem. Of course the user explained that the system time is usually wrong after booting into windows partition. So take note.

OPENVPN

Yeah, I finished configuring OPENVPN today and I feel a heavy weight lifted off my shoulders. I got many tips online especially Ubuntu forum. don't make the mistake of building your client keys directly on clients system, best create all client keys on the VPN server and copy them to client systems. And if you get connection refused code 111, comment out the local ip address line and see the outcome. Enjoy....

OPENFIRE AND SPARK LAN Messenger

Well guys, outlook messenger may not be the best free LAN messenger after all, it updated and asked for license registration so I had to find another alternative. Just finished configuring OPENFIRE and SPARK on ubuntu 8.04 server. And its free with a server to aid central user management. configuring was a bit tricky but with online tips, I got it going. God bless those who post solutions online.

Flex Development

Switched back to windows7, had to install Flex builder 3 to make application developement easier and faster. Linux Flex Alpha does not feature Data Connectivity and GUI which is not good for lazy coders like me. :)

Outlook Messenger

Well guys, I got this software LAN chatting software "outlook messenger" and it has made life really easy for our users. less running around and .............. You can check it out. :) i heard open fire is also good and most importantly free.

Management has refused to grant purchase of KVM switch, but no need, I am already running remote desktop from my new Ubuntu 9.10 desktop to our three Ubuntu 8.04 Server. Administraton is easier and cool... will work on windows integration. :)

Vista and Arcview 9 Compatibilty

I have just had to reformat a system on the network running window vista home edition because it has compatibility issues with ArcView 9. I am installing window XP Professional right now. Aurevoir Vista :)

Switching to Ubuntu 9.10

I have just finished installing ubuntu 9.10 desktop as a dual boot on my system, I have to admit I like it better than fedora core 11. Installation is so smoot and fast. now lets finish with installing updates and moving backed up files :)

Hard disk reformat

Just finished re-installing Windows Vista on a Sony VGN-FZ11E, many thanks to my Linux Fedora live CD :), the Data on the hard disk would have been lost forever. Can now concentrate on the Web developement Codes.

Today's Activities

Retrieve data from Sony VGN FZ11E laptop using Fedora core 11 live CD, contact DOPC about loss in Unwired Modem connection, Download device drivers for HP DX2400 Desktop, Continue running data cleaning on servers, monitor network printing..... phew God help me.
